A large church with a small church feel!

It has been said that "to know where you are going, you have to know where you have been".  To get a good picture of the South Parkersburg Baptist Church you have to start all the way back at the beginning with the inception of the First Baptist Church of South Parkersburg and the founding Pastor, Rev. Harvey Cofer.  It is there in those pioneer days of what would become the South Parkersburg Baptist Church that the basis for who we are and what we have become took it's shape.

Over the years the church that began in 1891 in the church pictured above, outgrew it's structure and felt the call to move so that they would be in a position to reach morepeople for Christ.  Through the years they have moved to at least 3 more sites.  The first was at 10th and Thomas streets (pictured left) and then they moved up onto Blizzard Drive, where they built the structure that is currently the computer lab at Parkersburg South High School (pictured right).

Finally, the church moved to it's current site and continued to minister to the peope of the Mid-Ohio Valley.  Over the years SPBC continued to grow and flourish.  As we hit the centinial celebration an amazing growth began to happen.  Over that time our church grew to it's current size of over 1,500 regular attenders.

Recently, our church has felt the need to help grow the Kingdom in different ways.  One way that we have felt called was in the planting of a new church in the Lubeck area.  After much prayer and planning the Lubeck Community Baptist Church was born in 2000.  It now is a fully independent member of the WV Baptist Community here in Parkersburg.  Then again we felt a burden to make a difference in a neighboring community and we ventured a little farther to begin a satellite campus in the Mason Co. area called LifeSpring Community Church in 2007.

Where will the SPBC go from here?  Only God knows, but we here at SPBC look forward to the journey he has for us to get there.
