SR. HIGH - MID-HIGH PARENT’S NEWSLETTER
We are almost through week one of school and that brings a lot to our tables. A lot of excitement for a new school year, a lot of anticipation for what the year will hold, a lot of expectation for the year can be. Of all the emotions running through our students my heart is that this year they choose to “make it matter”. This year can be different; this year can make a difference. I’m excited for what this year holds for our students and our families as we strive to make it matter.
Last Sunday night we continued our back to school countdown with a huge food fight. This Sunday we will finish it up with a massive water war battle. As we look ahead to the next couple of Sunday nights we finish up back to school countdown this Sunday, we do not have Sunday night service on the 5th because of family camp, and we pick up connection groups on Sunday the 12th.
Last Saturday we had a great time at the water stop as almost 20 of our students came out in the early hours of the last summer Saturday morning to connect 2 the world. We even had some of our students appear in the Sunday paper the next day.

SENIOR HIGH NEWS
MAKE IT MATTER
This year’s theme for our student ministry program will be “Make it Matter”. The theme comes from John 15:16 “You did not choose me but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit – fruit that will last. This is my command: Love each other”. This scripture challenges us in three very specific way. The first is the fact that God has chosen us. Many of us feel inadequate, unqualified, and unaccepted to life out our faith but God clearly tells us that he has chosen us. The second challenge is the fact that he has called us to go. God wants our lives to mean something. We are not called to sit on the sidelines and watch life go by but we are called to actively live out our faith and walk with God. The final challenge is the fact that God has called us to bear fruit. There is an expectation that God has on our lives. In essence he wants us to take our lives and make them matter. Not only has he chosen us to live but he has called us to bear fruit, to make a difference, to make life matter. Over the course of the year we will focus on seven main things that we will strive to make matter in our lives. The seven checkpoints come from the book “Seven checkpoints by Andy Stanley and Stuart Hall”. These checkpoints are great because not only do they give our students a balance in their faith but they match perfectly with our vision and mission as a church to connect to God, Others, and the World. Here are the seven things we want our students to make matter and how they fit with our vision.
Connect 2 God
Authentic Faith – Putting your trust in God
Spiritual Disciplines – Seeing with God’s eyes
Ultimate Authority – Finding freedom under God
Connect 2 Others
Healthy Friendships – Choosing Friends for life
Moral Boundaries – Paving the way for intimacy
Wise Choices – Walking wisely in a fool’s world
Connect 2 the World
Others First – Considering others before yourself
The theme song for our year is titled “Make it Matter by Natalie Grant” and as you read the words of the song I believe that you see the heart of what we are trying to accomplish this year as a student ministry.
Make it Matter – chorus
Take my life and lift me up to the sky
Take my dreams and help me to fly
On the wings of possibility
Come rewrite my history
(till it's) only you I'm chasing after
Take this life and make it matter
